Failure EP2: Botched Video Card Capacitor Replacement (FX 5200)
In this video we will take a look at the hideous capacitor replacement job that I performed on a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 video card. I did this about 2 years ago, it was my first time making a board level repair on a system. At the time I did not really know what I was doing and to make matters worse I did not have the proper capacitor replacement values on hand. To compensate for this I took two 470 micro-farad capacitors and put them in parallel to create a suitable replacement. The repair ended up being successful but it definitely was not pretty. The capacitors ended up sticking out far above the board creating a hazardous situation. One day when I have the time I definitely need to properly replace the caps.
