Failure EP3: Building a USB 5V to 12V Power adapter for 3.5″ Hard Drive Enclosures …. Again
I am at it again! Today I will attempt to get the 5V to 12V 3.5″ hard drive enclosure USB power adapter up and working. Last time I tried this I figured I needed some more capacitance to get the platter motor up and running since it consumes a little under 25 watts upon startup, a load which is way to much for two USB 3.0 ports. Obviously this is a “failure” video so I did run into some problems, the step up models were not outputting an ideal voltage to change up the capacitors to the needed voltage and the capacitor bank still needs to be much larger. I am not sure If I want to carry on with this project since the needed capacitor bank will be huge compared to the original wall wart. Tell me what you guys think and if you have any ideas!
