Today I am going to make some upgrades to a HP Elitebook 8440p that I picked up at a government auction for ~$25. My sister’s Onda Obook 11 recently started exhibiting issues with its keyboard and is no longer usable as a school machine. It’s time to get her a proper laptop. This HP 8440P is a solid machine (amazing build quality, comparable to earlier thinkpads) and has enough power under the hood for basic office tasks, web browsing, and some light gaming. In order to get this machine 100% up and running, I will install a 120GB ADATA SP550 SSD into the laptop and reapply the thermal paste on the CPU. I also attempted to add a 4GB stick of DDR3 but soon found out that the only stick of DDR3 I had was faulty. For the OS, I decided to install WIndows 7 pro because the laptop had a COA sticker already on it’s backside.
